Maintaining Mental Agility in S3 and S4 To develop mental agility with simple fractions and percentages, timed tests such as the one shown below are used approximately once per fortnight. The tests are handed out face down on a pupil's desk. The teacher tells the class when to start. Pupils raise a hand as soon as the test is completed. The teacher reads out the time taken and this is recorded by the pupil. After a maximum time of say, 2 minutes, the pupils are told to stop. (The length of time given can vary depending on the ability of the class). The pupils are responsible for the marking and recording of their performance. Any error or omission incurs a 10 second penalty. This penalty time is added to the time taken for the test and an "overall score" is produced. Performance in one test can be used to indicate areas requiring further work before the next test.
There are 10 tests covering Fractions, 10 covering Percentages and 12 covering a mixture of Fractions and Percentages. If you wish to down load these files (word97 zip) click on the link below. Down load S3Fractions S3Percentages S3Fractions&Percentages Contact: MentalAgility@westburn.demon.co.uk
